Striving for Excellence

Let’s delve into the lives of one of our employees from The Akshaya Patra Foundation! Saudamini Sahoo from our decentralised kitchen at Nayagarh, Odisha, joined the organisation in 2013. She heard about the work the Foundation does in 2007, and had her heart set on joining Akshaya Patra in providing food for education to the underprivileged school children in her locality.

In the time that Saudamini worked with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, she has proved herself to be a very valuable employee. Keeping in close adherence to the organisation’s strong focus on good safety and hygiene practices, in June 2013, Saudamini led a training session for her co-workers on quality, safety and hygiene practices in the kitchen.

Saudamini prioritises cleanliness in the kitchen, and is well known for her delicious food. The children especially love her Kheer (an Indian sweet dish) and potato-pea curry.

With a soft spot for the children, Saudamini is a ray of sunshine in the Nayagarh kitchen. Artistic as well, her Rangoli (traditional Indian designs drawn by hand at entrances) is beautiful to behold. Rangolis are an integral part of the traditional Odisha culture, and Saudamini takes pride in maintaining this practice.

Saudamini is married to Birendra Kumar Sahoo, who works as a tailor. She has three children, the eldest of which works at a water packaging company in Bhubaneshwar, while her younger two study in Standard X and IV respectively.

Saudamini’s hard work has made Akshaya Patra proud. Her dream is to become the best cook in the Nayagarh kitchen, and with her skill and dedication, we know she’ll realise her ambitions very soon.
